At the time this book was published, Queens included current Nassau County, so the text touches on Hempstead and other areas. Numerous wood engraved illustrations and steel engrave portraits. Moses King. Views of the New York Stock Exchange; A History and Description. Folio size: 14” X 10”.  Published by Moses King, 1898. 1061 portraits of Wall Street brokers and prominent men of finance, and 65 photo illustrations of the New York Stock Exchange and surroundings. Cover rubbed. About 1/3 of pages suffered water damage at the very bottom with small abrasions left when pages pulled apart -- partially obscures some portrait captions and a several other captions of affected pages. Nelson's Guide to the City of New York and its Neighbourhood. Published by T. Nelson & sons, London and Edinburgh, dated 1859. Extremely rare City guidebook with 12 color tinted lithographic plates, one of which is a map of lower Manhattan and part of Brooklyn. Other small wood engravings in text. 64 pages. Most of the lithos, on heavier card, are loose, some with edgewear. Small hardcover, 6 x 4 inches. Patterned cloth binding with some edgewear but overall in very good condition. See on ABE - $175




Joel Tyler Headley. The Great Riots of New York 1712-1873. Published by E.B. Treat, dated 1873. First edition. Extremely rare volume covering Negro riots of 1712-41, stamp act riots. Spring election riots, abolition riots, civil war draft riots and orange riots. Several official reports included at the back and several wood engraved plates throughout..
